We are now RCVS Accredited

RCVS
St Kitts, Basingstoke and Firgrove veterinary centre’s are proud to announce we are now RCVS accredited.
What does that mean ?
RCVS accreditation means that the practice has undergone a rigorous inspection by the RCVS College. The RCVS scheme set high standards and carry out regular assessments, the Scheme aims to promote and maintain the highest standards of veterinary care.
It offers peace of mind to clients of accredited practices and ensures you are getting the best level of care.

To become accredited practices volunteer for rigorous assessment every four years and will have met a range of minimum standards including hygiene, 24-hour emergency cover, staff training, certain types of equipment and cost estimation procedures .Practices are also subject to spot-checks between assessments.
As our Church Crookham branch has not long opened they are still under assessment but we look forward to letting you know when they have received their certificate.

Image Veterinary Laboratory

Veterinary Laboratory

Our on-site veterinary laboratory is equipped for performing a wide range of haematology, biochemistry and urine tests, with microscopes and refractometers to provide accurate and rapid results. The quicker we diagnose the problem the sooner treatment can begin, and in emergency cases immediate results are vital.

Image Diagnostic Imaging

Diagnostic Imaging

We have advanced digital radiographic equipment at each branch, which produce a much higher quality picture than the old film x-rays. It also means we have instant access to your pets results and can diagnose and treat any problems quickly.

Dental x-rays

Thanks to our dental x-ray facilities, our vets can diagnose underlying problems hidden below the gum line, which allows us to offer a higher standard of oral care for our patients.

Ultrasound equipment

Veterinary ultrasounds are non-invasive and allow us to look at specific organs and areas of the body, giving instant results. At our practices, we often use ultrasounds for heart scans, pregnancy scans and investigation of serious internal disease.

They can often be done on a conscious animal, although sometimes a mild sedation may be needed for the more anxious patients.

Image Microchipping

Microchipping

A lost pet is very upsetting, but unfortunately this can happen no matter how careful we are. This simple, reliable and permanent means of identification can happily reunite a lost pet and their owner.

What is the procedure?

A tiny chip is injected under your cat or dog’s skin holding an I.D. code unique to your pet. Stored along with your contact details on a central database, this information is accessible 24 hours a day. Rescue centres, dog wardens and veterinary practices hold special scanners, which read the code to identify the lost animal.

Why is microchipping important?

Microchipping plays a significant part in your care for your pet and helps to ensure that you are happily reunited if they ever go missing.

It’s also the law that all dogs (8 weeks and over) must be microchipped and the current owners’ details registered. The government recently announced that microchipping is set to become a legal requirement for cats too.

Book a microchipping appointment with your local practice.

Image Animal Health Certificates

Animal Health Certificates

As of the 1st of January 2021, GB issued pet passports are no longer valid for travelling to the EU with your pet. Instead, they have been replaced with Animal Health Certificates that will now be needed to travel with your dog, cat or ferret to the EU or Northern Ireland from England, Scotland or Wales.

An Animal Health Certificate is a document that must be completed and certified by an Official Veterinarian (OV) approved by the APHA (Animal and Plant Health Agency), and must be issued no more than 10 days before you depart.

Below we have listed some frequently asked questions:

Can I use my Pet Passport?

As of the 1st of January 2021, you can no longer use your pet passport for travel to the EU or Northern Ireland unless the pet passport was issued in an EU country or in Northern Ireland. However, pet passports can still be used to provide proof of an up-to-date Rabies vaccination for the Animal Health Certificate if the vaccine was given before the 1st of January 2021 (and is still valid).

What animals do you need an Animal Health Certificate for?

Dogs, cats and ferrets.

What does my pet need to be eligible for an Animal Health Certificate?

For your pet to be issued an Animal Health Certificate, your dog, cat or ferret needs:

  • Microchip
  • To have had its rabies vaccination at least 21 days before your Animal Health Certificate appointment

If you are travelling to Northern Ireland, Ireland, Norway, Finland or Malta with your dog, they will also need a tapeworm treatment within 5 days and no more than 24 hours before you enter into these countries. This will need to be certified by a vet on your Animal Health Certificate.

Which countries ask for an Animal Health Certificate?

If you are traveling from Great Britain (England, Wales or Scotland) into any EU country or Northern Ireland, your pet will require an Animal Health Certificate.

If you are traveling to a non-EU country, this requires different documentation and tests.

If you have any questions, please contact your local St Kitts Branch where one of our friendly team members will be happy to help.
